Christophe Lemaire, the new creative director at the classic French luxury brand, Hermès, knows the world of sport. Previously at Lacoste, he played to the brand’s associations with the game of tennis.
his debut collection for autumn/winter 2011, it was the ancient arts of “la chasse” and falconry which inspired him.
One model appeared with “Josephine”, a 20-year-old ‘Faucon Gerfault’, perched on her wrist, while another carried a bow and a quiver of arrows. The clothes effortlessly combined the loose, easy mood of Bedouin robes. Leather Trousers, djellaba-style jackets, cashmere and suede tunics, came with trousers tucked into matching leather boots.
The collection was staged in Hermès rue de Sèvres store on the Left Bank while the young musician, Wu Fei, played her own composition on the ‘guzheng’, a Chinese zither.
